Historical homes and churches dot the landscape, presenting typical architecture of Central Texas’s railroad communities. Smithville real estate showcases incredible architectural craftsmanship that can be seen in the examples of Victorian, Queen Anne, Classical Revival and Greek Revival throughout its neighborhoods and its commercial downtown district. Strolls down Main Street often result in a friendly chat with a neighbor, or a stop at one of the many unique shops, restaurants, public library or City Hall.

The tree-lined streets, historic atmosphere and small-town charm even led to the movies “Hope Floats” and “The Tree of Life” being filmed in Smithville, making it the first city in Texas to be named “Film and Family Friendly” by the Texas Film Commission.
